Hey there,
This one's going to be a quick read because this week, I'm sending out a premium written guide on "Shotgun Ankle Locks" by Mateusz Szczecinski.
However, I didn't want to leave our free subscribers without something to train with this week. So, I've decided to include the most crucial lesson from this DVD in this short issue. Here it comes:
How to 5x Your Ankle Lock Power:
We've all heard various details about finishing ankle locks. For instance, using the bony part of your arm, driving your hips into their leg, and so on.
In my experience, those details only work for some people (most of them resemble Dean Lister). That's why the ankle lock has often been considered a weaker or beginner to mid-level submission, not effective at the highest levels.
Until Mateusz Szczecinski arrived and not only added more details but also introduced techniques that contradicted what we were previously told to do, challenging the conventional way of finishing ankle locks.
So, here it goes:
Most of us were applying pressure in the wrong direction! We were trying to break the longer, more flexible ligaments of our opponent's foot (Red arrow):
Instead of extending the foot's shorter tendons and ligaments (Green arrow - Inner side of the foot).
This detail is what sets Aoki locks apart from regular ankle locks. By changing the angle at which we apply pressure, we can harness our knowledge of anatomy to execute more potent ankle locks:
That's it!
I hope this helps you step up your ankle lock game.
